Ruby June

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ruby June is loving life in Cape Town. Her music is a combination of indie-folk and rock infused with some tasty South African undertones. Her songs tell stories of Kings and queens and Sons and daughters and the freedom we each seek to find.

Ruby June released her first EP while studying. Soon after, she embarked on a very well-received tour of the Garden Route and Karoo which she called “Cape to Karoo”. Alongside her band, she has played with South African heavyweights Elvis Blue and Joshua na die Reën.

Born and raised in Mossel Bay, she spent a year touring with performing arts ministry 13thFLOOR based in Pretoria after school. However, big city lights are what called her to the Mother City. This is where she honed her craft at music college, majoring in electric- and bass guitar. She then finally felt ready to give the music scene a go.

She currently serves as Music Director at a church in Camps Bay and at night performs her own music in and around Cape Town. She believes her faith is what inspires her to write music and be creative. “Sometimes it’s the worst times in life that push us to grow and become better people.”

Ruby June is the product of years of dreaming, writing and singing and 2016 holds the promise of more music, more soul and more Ruby.
